The challenge of peace negotiations in Colombia:
Views from academia
Dr. José A. Gutiérrez leads our engagement on peace negotiations in Colombia. He was an advisor to the peace negotiations between the Colombian government and the FARC-EP faction that did not demobilise in 2016 (the so-called EMC). Currently, these negotiations are frozen; however, José and a group of academics in Colombia (the Academic Forum for Peace in Colombia) remain advocates for the return to peace negotiations and are developing inputs to address the challenges of peace negotiations in Colombia.
José’s work has focused mostly on developing a gender-informed bottom-up participation framework within the negotiations as well as developing a framework on environmental justice and land reform in the context of these ongoing negotiations.
